Young Kapiti dancer WOWing her examiners
October 2014
Kapiti dancer Roseanna Lewis is pictured with British Theatre Dance Association examiner Mrs Tracey Liggins at her studio in Leicester, UK.

Performing in the World of WearableArt is normal daily routine for 11 year old Roseanna Lewis. This is her second year performing in the show, which included six weeks of rehearsals in Wellington three nights a week, before the current three week run.

This year the children's section includes acrobatics, Roseanna's favourite dance style.

Roseanna was awarded a Distinction for her Grade 5 Acrobatics and was invited to visit the examiners' school in England. During her visit she received lessons in acrobatics, modern jazz and lyrical. She also received tuition from professional cruise line dancers during their break touring.

In the middle of the WOW run she found time to squeeze in three more exams in jazz and lyrical as well as gaining her Gold Shield for acrobatics. The examiner said of her acrobatic dance "outstanding performance".

Following the exam session the examiner offered to choreograph a ballet solo for Roseanna. This is a huge compliment for a young dancer and a great acknowledgement of the hours of rehearsal she puts in each week to improve her dancing.

After WOW Roseanna still has a busy performance schedule closer to home on the Kapiti coast, with the Waikanae Market on Labour weekend and her dance school show in November.
