Michael Endres Piano Recital in Waikanae
The Waikanae Music Society is hosting renowned pianist Michael Endres on August 4

The Waikanae Music Society is proud to welcome back the outstanding German pianist Michael Endres who will be performing in the Waikanae Memorial Hall on Sunday 4 August. His previous Waikanae performance in 2011 received a rapturous ovation and his return is eagerly anticipated.

Michael Endres, renowned as one of the world's foremost interpreters of Schubert, performs world wide as a soloist and chamber music partner. He has been Professor of piano at Germany's leading music colleges in Cologne and Berlin. He was accompanist for the legendary baritone Hermann Prey for many years, playing at prestigious venues like Covent Garden and La Scala. He has recorded nearly 30 CDs and is a regular performer at festivals such as the Beethoven Festival in Bonn, the Salzburg Festival and the Newport Festival in the USA. We in New Zealand are really fortunate that this wonderful pianist joined the music faculty at Canterbury University in 2009 as Professor of Piano.

For his August 4 concert Michael Endres will be playing works by Mozart, Schubert, Ravel and Gershwin. The concert starts with a set of Variations by Mozart, followed by some of the best-loved piano works of Schubert, the Four Impromptus (Opus 142).

Two pieces by Ravel will open the second part of the concert. One of these is the well-known Pavane for a Dead Princess, the other is Jeux d'eau.
The main work in the second half will be Gershwin's famous Rhapsody in Blue. Michael Endres has recently released a CD of the piano works of Gershwin which has been a huge success, running top of the NZ classical chart for several weeks, so it will be exciting to hear live his acclaimed performance of this exciting piece.

Door sales will be available, or tickets can be bought at Waikanae New World, Moby Dickens Books in Paraparaumu Beach, or at Lush Design Gallery in Raumati.

Prices: $30 public, $20 WMS members, $5 for students under 25.
