Kāpiti Politics - Ōtaki Labour MP delivering her maiden speech in Parliament
Ōtaki MP Terisa Ngobi has delivered her maiden speech to the 53rd Parliament.
The maiden speech is a major milestone for any new Member of Parliament, marking the first time they speak in the House debating chamber, and the official beginning of their Parliamentary career.
Ms Ngobi used her maiden speech to talk about the hopes and aspirations she has for her time in Parliament and what she hopes to achieve.
She says she will work hard for our electorate and will pursue the election promises made during the campaign. Ms Ngobi says she will seek better access to health services, transportation, continue to support the commitment to a four lane highway to Levin and add value where she can to reducing poverty and inequalities.
Ms Ngobi spoke of the importance of her upbringing in making her who she is today, including helping to shape the beliefs and values that prompted her to enter Parliament, and the character of Ōtaki, the electorate she represents.
