Kapiti Schools in Lock Down over Gun Incident

At about 2pm this afternoon a person called Police advising they had seen a male with a sawn off shot gun in Te Kupe Rd, Paraparaumu. He believed an altercation had taken place in the area.

Armed Police attended and the area was cordoned off. Schools in the immediate vicinity were also put into lock down.
A Police spokesperson says about 45 minutes later, a vehicle was seen leaving the area. Police were able to successfully stop it and arrested a male passenger.
A firearm was also located in the vehicle.
A 43 year old local man has been charged with the Unlawfully Carriage of a Firearm and will be held in custody to appear in the Porirua District Court tomorrow.

Good to see a great outcome. With no shots being fired. Hopefully it will not happen again. Job well done you boys and girls in blue.
