Dane Coles of All Blacks and Hurricanes fame, receives the Kapiti Sportsperson of the Year award from Pak'nSave owner Glen Taylor at the 2017 awards.
Nominations are open for the 2018 PAK'n SAVE Kapiti Sportsperson of the Year Awards organised by the Lions Club of Kapiti Charitable Trust.
Andrew Laing from the Lions Club of Kapiti says if you know someone who has excelled in sport over the past year and deserves to be recognised for their achievements then now is the time to nominate them for the 2018 Kapiti Sportsperson of the Year Awards.
This years Awards function is on Thursday 24th May at Southwards commencing at 6.30pm.
Mr Laing says sport is such a great agent for building health, fitness, character and local pride in both individuals and teams, but prior to 2005 there was little formal recognition available to the many worthy Kapiti sportspeople in the district.
So the Lions Club of Kapiti instituted the Sportsperson of the Year Awards (SPOY) to fill that gap and the Awards have become a fantastic event celebrating sporting excellence on the Kapiti Coast.
Alongside the awards The Lions Club of Kapiti offers an annual grant of up to $1000.00 to assist young athletes between the ages of 14 and 20 who are actively participating in sport, to assist them to develop their skills and attain their sporting goals.
