Kris Faafoi to host public meeting on Expressway noise
5 July, 2017
Mana MP Kris Faafoi meeting with concerned Tui and Kiwi Road residents.

The disruption to the lives of Raumati residents caused by noise from the Kapiti Expressway requires an urgent fronting up from NZTA, says MP for Mana Kris Faafoi.

"Following a street corner meeting over the weekend where a dozen local residents raised their concerns I'm organising a public meeting to gauge the quantity and the precise issues the noise is producing – and I've asked NZTA to attend as well",

"Over the last year I've been helping many locals with issues related to the Kapiti Expressway but following a series of street corner meetings over the weekend its clear Expressway noise issues are widespread", says Kris Faafoi.

"Locals I've spoken to are frustrated with the lack of communication and the lack of action from NZTA following repeated complaints",

"This is an issue that affects quality of life, property values and even health", says Kris Faafoi.

The Paraparaumu/Raumati Community Board passed the following resolution at its meeting last Thursday."The Community Board write to NZTA pointing out that the current allowable level for road noise on the new expressway is unacceptable. Residents in our community living in the vicinity of the new road are experiencing disturbed sleep which is affecting their health and wellbeing. NZTA is urged to take the Best Practical Option through noise mitigation and other options to reduce night time noise so residents stress, mental health, work efficiency and quality of life are not threatened."
