A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on Wednesday 14 December between Horowhenua District Council, Levin Police, Waitārere Beach Progressive & Ratepayers Association Incorporated (WBPRA), Horowhenua Community Camera Trust (HCCT) and Horowhenua District Council.
This partnership contributes to the Horowhenua Community Wellbeing Framework Objectives 2021-2024.
The MOU seeks to ensure we have:
- Improved cameras and police searches, with community reporting of results.
- Promotion of requirements for security camera infrastructure in housing developments.
- Expansion of innovative security camera coverage in Waitārere Beach during a time of growth.
- Long range planning of whole district camera coverage.
“We rely heavily on local police to keep our community safe, but without a doubt a collaborative approach to sharing information and resources can only help to improve the safety and security of our community,” says Horowhenua District Council Mayor Bernie Wanden.
Our community police strive towards keeping our community safe, but rely on the support of community volunteers such as our Māori Wardens, Neighbourhood Support workers, Beach Wardens, Community Patrollers and these days images from public security cameras.
A direct benefit from this MOU is Police will now have more accessible, quicker and geographically broader access to surveillance cameras to help with their investigations.
