Many of the region’s rivers are in flood and more rain is predicted. The public are warned to take special care around riverbanks and flooded waterways.
The ongoing rain has caused slips and road closures around the region. Council teams and contractors have been working at multiple sites to clear and stabilise these.
Waka Kotahi say State Highway 59 between Paekākāriki and Pukerua Bay could be closed for weeks.
