A group of fourteen talented young Kāpiti people spent their school holiday perfecting their performance skills at Theatreworks.
On Friday evening the group performed their show based around the Glee Club storyline, with the school mis-fits and perfectly choreographed Cheerio cheerleaders coming together in a 30 minute play that was described by parents as “brilliant”.
Producer Graham Lewis who wrote the script said, “The feedback from parents was fantastic. It was suggested by many who watched the performance, that we take the show on tour around Kāpiti.”
The show contains some classic numbers including Don’t Stop Believing, We are the Champions and Tell Him made famous by The Exciters. The cast put the show together in 5 days learning all the songs and scripts in that time. Singing tuition was given by local singer Fiona Bee with choreography by Michelle Lewis.
“We have already contacted local organisations who have confirmed they would like us to perform for them.” said Graham Lewis.
If there are other schools, retirement homes or other community based
organisations who would like to see the performance at their venue then please contact Graham on 293 7784 to book a show time.
The Theatreworks programme has been running in Kāpiti for the last nine months has trained 34 children in various forms of theatre art from comedy drama to musical theatre. It offers after school and school holiday programmes for school and college kids.
