Attention Kāpiti Sports Administrators, this could be just the job for you.
Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) is now seeking applications for the position of Chef de Mission for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games team. The successful candidate will be a committed and exceptional professional with the ability to drive the New Zealand campaign to success in Rio.
This position was previously held by Duane Kale at both the Beijing and London Games. Duane has been an outstanding Chef de Mission and led the NZ team to 6 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze medals in London giving New Zealand the highest medal return per capital of any country in the world. Duane feels the time is right to move aside. Duane says, “After much careful consideration I have decided to step aside from this role for the Rio 2016 Games,” he continues, “I have thoroughly enjoyed, and been privileged, being the Chef de Mission for the last two Paralympic Games. It’s now time for a new person to step in and lead the team to Rio. ” Duane is looking forward to continuing his involvement with Paralympic Sport as a member of the Paralympics New Zealand board. Duane will lead a knowledge transfer programme with the successful Chef de Mission candidate.
Fiona Allan (Paralympic New Zealand, CEO) says, “The task of staying at the top of Paralympic Sport continues to become increasing difficult with Paralympics New Zealand charged to deliver 8 to 12 gold medals at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games,” she continues, “and the Chef de Mission will play a vital role in achieving this ambitious target. They must create and lead a high performance team environment which is inspirational and provides the opportunity for all athletes to thrive and succeed.”
The position is currently being advertised on key Sport NZ and Adecco websites, Seek and TradeMe, along with key national and regional newspapers and of course on www.kcnews.co.nz
