“Household power prices have increased by 207% since 1990 at a rate much faster than inflation. Electricity prices are now at astronomical levels for residential consumers,” said Bruce Taylor, spokesperson for the Labour Party branches in Kāpiti.
“We know that people would you like to pay less for their power, but how can power prices be cut? What needs to be done to regulate the electricity industry to achieve a fairer outcome for both residential and commercial consumers?”
To discuss these vital issues the Labour Party in Kāpiti is holding a public meeting in Waikanae on Tuesday 24 September at the Waikanae Community Centre (formerly the Senior Citizens Hall), Utauta Street, Waikanae starting at 7pm.
Labour Finance Spokesperson, Hon David Parker, will explain how a Labour Government will cut power bills through its New Zealand Power policy. He will be joined by independent energy analyst and researcher, Molly Melhuish, who will give her point of view on how more effective regulation of the electricity industry will bring prices down.
“There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion,” Bruce Taylor said. “All the people of Kāpiti who are concerned about power prices are invited to attend.”
