On Sunday, March 19, during a beautiful morning in Paekākāariki, Caroline Boyd was on a run doing her regular route but on this day, just minutes from home, running along the footpath on a quiet Paekākāariki street she was struck by a wayward car coming from her opposite direction. She died at the scene, aged 56.
The driver, Nathan James Lyon, 37, has appeared in the High Court in Wellington and did not enter pleas to the charges of causing Ms Boyd’s death by dangerous driving and thereby committing manslaughter, dangerous driving causing injury and driving while suspended.
All three charges relate to Paekākāariki incident.
Justice Robert Dobson remanded Lyon on bail to appear in court again on December 1. A tentative trial date was set for June 2018.
Ms Boyd, 56, was a senior public servant whose policy roles had included working in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
She was married with three children.
