Pzazz Building are looking to offer two building apprenticeships to Work Ready Kāpiti programme participants.
Nick Fleming, 17yr old Ōtaki College student has recently been offered a fantastic work opportunity following his work experience placement via Work Ready Kāpiti’s WEX programme.
Nick completed a week’s work experience at Pzazz Building and received great feedback from Owner Rudy van Vlerken and his team.
Rudy commented, “Nick worked hard. He knew his way around a building site, he was alert, listened and did whatever was asked of him. He won praise from all the staff for his attitude and willingness to work.”
Nick made quite an impact during his short time with them, as Rudy goes on to explain, “two of my Foremen have already asked if he will be back, so we have asked him to return for the next school holidays. We will start with paid work in the holidays with a possible apprenticeship at the end of the school year if all goes well.”
Nick commented, “The work experience went really well and was helpful for me because it gave me an idea of what building is and I got lots of positives from it.”
With a passion for the work that Work Ready Kāpiti are doing for youth, Pzazz are also key sponsors of the initiative and attend their #EmployerMeet events (speed dating style events for employers and local youth). It was there that they also met another local student Cody Peart from Kāpiti College. They were so impressed with Cody during their interview that as Rudy commented, “we also offered Cody a chance at an apprenticeship if he keeps in touch and takes up our offer of work one day a week .”
These are two great examples of how the #EmployerMeet events and the WEX work experience placements are making a real difference in the lives of Kāpiti youth.
