The Kāpiti Council is advising people to stay out of the Mazengarb stream and Waikanae Estuary and Waikanae River mouth following a wastewater pipe break this afternoon.
“The pipe was damaged while contractors were working to construct the Mazengarb Road and Ratanui Road roundabout says Martyn Cole, Water & Wastewater Asset Manager.
“Our team has temporarily repaired the pipe but there has been a small discharge of raw sewerage into the drain that runs into the Mazengarb stream.
“We’re advising people to stay out of the Mazengarb stream and the Waikanae Estuary and Waikanae River mouth until further notice as there’s an increased risk of people getting sick with things like tummy bugs.
“If you’re walking your dog near these areas please keep it on a lead.”
Mr Cole says permanent repairs to the pipe will be made as quickly as possible and people can still move through the area.
