KiwiBank at Coastlands received an unexpected visit tonight (Monday) just before 6pm when the elderly driver of a brand new Swift rode over the curb and went straight through the plate glass window.

The incident was not a ram raid or an attempted robbery but was instead an unfortunate accident where the driver had lost control.

The car ended up half way through the bank.

Police organised care for the driver and she is said to be shaken but not seriously injured. The car had been purchased just yesterday.

Security manager Keith Bullock was onsite quickly to secure the area along with his team.

Ben Rowney, Wellington Area Manager of Glass Group, was also on site and will have the task of reinstalling the huge front window.
