The recent opening of the Electra Business and Innovation Awards process drew a full house at Māoriland hub in Ōtaki.
This is 30th year of the awards and guest speaker Chris Barber from the Bond Store in Kāpiti shared his story and how the business landscape had changed over that time.
Mr Barber says The Bond Store is a family business which started when they bought into the popular liquor Limoncello and over time morphed in to Gin and other spirits to meet market need. The team at The Bond Store is Chris Barber, his wife Bec and daughter Kay.
In their first year of gin production they won the bronze medal in the NZ Spirits Awards and they have since won several other awards.
The awards trust chairman Brendan Duffy says there are 7000 businesses in Kāpiti and Horowhenua and he is encouraging business owners to enter and thanks to the two local councils there is no longer an entry fee.
Kāpiti Mayor Janet Holborow says the awards are a great opportunity to showcase Kāpiti and Horowhenua businesses.
“We have so many innovative businesses in Kāpiti who are achieving amazing things in difficult times. I encourage as many as possible to enter the awards which can have very positive outcomes for your business and our community.”
