The brainchild of Kāpiti’s Bruce Morgan is about to boost visitor numbers to the Coast with the launching of the Kāpiti Monster Garage Sale Trail.
Bruce says he saw something similar when visiting Winton (deep south) and thought it would be a great idea for Kāpiti.
Bruce quickly enlisted the help of his fellow members of the BNI Kāpiti Coast group and hey presto the idea has flourished into a reality and it kicks off on October 1.
Bruce says this could be the start of a permanent event for Kāpiti.
“The concept is pretty simple. We are all familiar with the good old kiwi garage sale and this will link a whole lot of them.
“If you live in Kāpiti you may be aware of the Garden Trail. So just swap out garden trail for garage trail and there you have the concept for the Kāpiti Monster Garage Sale Trail,” says Bruce.
Bruce says this is a great opportunity for the community to participate and funds raised will be going to support Kāpiti’s Mary Potter Hospice.
“The Kāpiti Monster Garage Sale Trail will cover from Paekākāriki to Waikanae and we are expecting a lot of interest,” says Bruce.

BNI Kāpiti Coast president Steve Jarvis says his chapter was very pleased to support the project.
“Everyone in the chapter is keen. BNI are big supporters of Mary Potter Hospice and we had been thinking about an event to raise funds. Since Bruce raised this idea everyone has been very enthusiastic and now we need Kāpiti to show up and enjoy the Monster Garage Sale Trail,” says Steve.
He says the whole ethos of BNI is givers gain and as they are a trusted network this fits in very well with their broader goals.
