Popular Raumati Community Board Chair Bede Laracy says strong community support has led him to announce that he is standing for the Paekākāriki-Raumati Ward councillor position at the elections later this year.
“As Chair of the very first Raumati Community Board, I’ve worked with the Board and the community to establish a presence and develop a culture. We’ve worked together brilliantly, and we’ve led the way on many fronts. We even won a national award for our outstanding work.”
Mr Laracy says he is proud of what the Raumati Community Board has achieved, and he is deeply grateful to amazing Board Members Jonny Best, Tarn Sheerin, Tim Sutton, and our outstanding Ward Councillor Sophie Handford.
“Over these three years, I have led the community sensibly and safely through big issues by putting people first. I have shown vision, compassion, and persistence, and now it’s time to take that approach to the Council table.”
Mr Laracy says a focus on people will be his guiding principle throughout his time on the Council.
“The system should exist to serve the people, not the other way around. I want to see people at the heart of all decisions. I want to see systems becoming more humanised. I want to see people prioritised over rules. I believe I have already shown my willingness to fight for people, and I intend to continue to do so.”
The election campaign period begins in late July, with election day being October 10th.
Mr Laracy says he looks forward to the opportunity to serve his community for another three years.
