Poppy Day in Kāpiti this month will make it easier for donors with no ready cash to use hand-held Eftpos machines carried by Paraparaumu Memorial RSA volunteer collectors to buy poppies on Friday 11th April.

Last year the RSA raised more than $18,000 in donations to support the welfare of local veterans and their dependents and 2025 Poppy Day convenor Peter Elliott says while that was a great result many people found they were not carrying cash.

Peter says this year’s Eftpos addition will be used in tandem with the normal cash collection and will allow for donations directly from personal bank accounts by entering an amount that they can afford then swiping, inserting, their bank card.

A preliminary use of the Eftpos machines will be run on Thursday 10th April 2025 at Paraparaumu  and Paekākāriki railway stations where last year commuters were asking for electronic means of donating.

Peter Elliott is encouraging people to make an Eftpos donation for Poppy Day if they can
