Waikanae Rotary spokesman Steve Botica says Rotary is extremely grateful to the Community Board for providing a grant of $500 to assist covering the costs associated with the recent Kāpiti Express Model Rail Show.
Mr Botica said all profits from this fundraising event will be used to fund the education program run successfully at Nga Manu.
“Rotary funded the course to be developed and fully funded the first two times it was run. The one week course provides for up to 12 Paraparaumu College students, who are going to go on to an ecology or biology degree, the opportunity to do real field work at Nga Manu utilizing Nga Manu staff, who are often leaders in their field.”
Mr Botica acknowledged the hard work of David Bruce, a Waikanae Rotarian, who led the development of this programme and the negotiations with Nga Manu to implement the programme.

“We also need to acknowledge Waikanae Lions who have come on board and part funded the course last year and will do so on an ongoing basis.”

Mr Botica says Waikanae Rotary is pleased to be able to utilize the funding to make Nga Manu even more of an asset to Waikanae and the wider region.
