A cornerstone policy has been sound financial management in a time of turmoil in local government throughout the country.

Ms Holborow, elected as mayor at the 2022 election, says the highlight of the term had been seeing important projects to completion and getting new projects off the ground, like the completion of Waikanae’s Toi Mahara Gallery, the Ōtaki Reservoir and Te Ara Whetū, the new Waikanae library.

She also said the council she led had been productive and positive, with councillors and community board members having the opportunity to realise their goals with their communities.

The council also finished major infrastructure projects “on time and on budget”, Mayor Holborow says, but the district’s growing population needed more infrastructure and facilities and it would be a continuing challenge to manage available resources.

“We’ve achieved so much over the past few years, and we need to keep the momentum going as we continue to ensure Kāpiti is vibrant and successful into the future,” she says.

“This means that we have been able to focus on creating a district which has quality facilities and services, a vibrant business sector, and is a great place to live and work.”
