Wellington Phoenix have reignited their A-League campaign with a commanding 2-0 victory over Perth Glory at Porirua, pushing into playoff contention. The win elevates the Phoenix women to fifth on the table, eight points adrift of league leaders Melbourne City.
The match came to life in the second half with goals from Grace Jale and Olivia Fergusson. Jale opened the scoring with a spectacular long-range strike that caught Perth goalkeeper Casey Dumont off guard. Fergusson added the second in the 69th minute, rising high to meet Lara Wall’s cross with a powerful header.
The Phoenix women have hit form after a rocky start to the season. Since November 17, they have collected 13 points from six matches, with only Melbourne City managing to defeat them during that stretch. The squad overcame illness and a demanding schedule to secure this vital win.
Captain Lily Alfeld says the team’s resilience has been key to their turnaround. “We’re building momentum and showing what we’re capable of,” she says.
With three games in eight days, including upcoming fixtures against Western Sydney and Adelaide, the Phoenix face a challenging period. However, their recent performances suggest they are well-equipped to continue their push for a playoff spot.
