Normally train vs car/trailor ends in tragedy and that was very nearly the case in Waikanae this afternoon when a long trailor was stuck by a train at the Elizabeth St crossing.
A witness told KCNews the driver was very lucky the train was able to slow enough to not fully impact the trailor which had extended onto the track.
Eyewitness Wayne, says a ute with a long trailor came across the crossing and he shouldn’t have because his trailor was too long.
Wayne says the police and fire service were on the scene very quickly and fortunately the scene was cleared with only limited damage that could have been a lot worse.
The vehicle was from Rees Engineering Services, a Whanganui firm specialising in Pipes.
The incident again highlighted the urgent need for another east/west crossing point (or underpass) at Waikanae.
