Keep thieves away from your vehicle’s rego plates. An event to find out about Safer Plates is being held on Saturday 23 November 2025 at Kāpiti Landing from 10:00am until 2:00pm

What are Safer Plates? Vehicle registration plate theft is surprisingly commonplace. Plates get removed from cars for a variety of reasons, including relocation of stolen vehicles and “splash and dash” thefts. That’s where people fill their vehicles at service stations and drive off without paying.

Kāpiti and Waikanae Community Patrols to host Safer Plates event

Servos bristle with CCTV cameras, and these perpetrators like to be able to cover their tracks by using plates that aren’t theirs.
At the Safer Plates events, Kāpiti and Waikanae Community Patrols replace the Phillips or slot-headed screws commonly used to attach registration plates, with a screwhead type that is not so common. This makes your plates harder to steal than those on the car next to it.

At the community Patrol’s Safer Plates events, they ask for a $5.00 donation to replace your front and rear registration plates’ screws.

Next Event: Our next event will be at Kāpiti Landing, in the New World carpark next to
Super Liquor on Saturday 23 November from 10:00am until 2:00pm. They will also hosting a fundraising sausage sizzle at the same time.
