Kamni Raju-Russell of Copperfield Collective says they are excited to announce the launch of their new Sensory Shopping Hours, aimed at creating a more inclusive shopping experience for our neurodiverse community.
Ms Raju-Russell says this is the very first initiative of such nature introduced in a retail shop on the Kāpiti Coast.
“These special hours are designed to provide a calm and controlled environment, ensuring that individuals with sensory sensitivities can shop comfortably and confidently.”
What Sensory Shopping entails:
- Reduced Noise: We lower the volume of our in-store music and limit announcements to maintain a peaceful atmosphere.
- Dimmed Lighting: Soft, ambient lighting is used to minimise visual overstimulation.
- Less Crowded: We limit the number of shoppers in-store to create a more spacious and relaxed environment.
- Supportive Staff: Our team is trained to assist with the unique needs of neurodiverse individuals, providing a supportive and understanding shopping experience.
Ms Raju-Russell says the Copperfield Collective’s commitment to accessibility and inclusivity is reflected in the above initiatives during Sensory Shopping Hours.
Sensory Shopping Hours are available every Tuesday from 10am to 12noon and Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm.
