The 2024 ELECTRA Trustee Election has been completed with Neil Mackay and John Yeoman being comfortably returned along with newcomer Corey Kennett. The candidate who missed out is Penny Gaylor from Ōtaki who is a GWRC councillor.
Mr Mackay is currently the Chair of the Kāpiti Economic Development Kotahitanga Board which is working with businesses, the community and investors to grow and develop our economy. He is also Director of an innovative eco-friendly wastewater treatment technology company and had previously been a director of Electra for 12 years, the last three as Chair until 2019.
Mr Mackay says he was pleased with the result and is looking forward to the many challenges ahead for the energy sector.
John Yeoman has been a long-serving Electra Trustee and says he is committed to maintaining Trust/local ownership.
Mr Yeoman has considerable financial and commercial management skills which he says are used to support the trustees to monitor Electra’s performance to ensure it continues to deliver a strong annual discount to customers.
A Paraparaumu resident, Mr Yeoman was previously Chief Executive of Electra from 2002 until his retirement in May 2014.
In addition to his work with the Electra Trust, Mr Yeoman is Chair of the Kāpiti Retirement Trust and until recently served on the Board of ETNZ (Energy Trusts of NZ).
Corey Kennett will be the new face on the Trust but comes with a wealth of experience. He has over 15 years’ experience as the CEO for Horowhenua Kāpiti Rugby Football Union, and says he has developed a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of the Horowhenua and Kāpiti communities.
Mr Kennett is also a trustee for the Eastern and Central Community Trust (ECCT), which he says has provided him with invaluable experience in governance and community development.
Mr Kennett says his ethos of lifelong learning is exemplified by his current enrolment in an Executive Masters in Business Administration Degree at Massey University.
