Jock Phillips is a New Zealand historian and author, best known for his contributions to the study of New Zealand’s social and cultural history.
On Sunday 7th of May, in the 45 Ocean Road Community Centre at Paraparaumu Beach, Mr. Phillips will be giving a talk on his latest book A History of New Zealand in 100 Objects.
Phillips was born in 1942 and has had a distinguished career, including serving as the Chief Historian at the Ministry for Culture and Heritage from 1992 to 2011. Phillips has written extensively on a wide range of topics, including New Zealand’s immigration history, the history of New Zealand tourism, and the history of the New Zealand Wars. His work is known for its accessibility and engaging style, making it popular with both academic and general readers alike. Phillips has also been involved in a number of public history projects, including serving as the lead historian on the creation of Te Ara, New Zealand’s online encyclopedia.
