Organisers say everyone attending the Electra Business Breakfast earlier this week was positively provoked by Shane Ardern, former MP, innovative dairy farmer and farming activist. He’s often referred to as the ‘fart tax guy’ and widely remembered for driving his tractor, Myrtle, up Parliament steps in protest of the proposed emissions tax.

At the time Mr Ardern was summonsed to appear in the Wellington District Court charged with disorderly behaviour, a charge that was eventually dropped. He is a third cousin by marriage to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

At the Breakfast he talked about the farming environment including threats and challenges ahead the way he sees it, including technology and how it’s helping his dairy farm save time, money and the environment.

The next Kāpiti Electra Business Breakfast on December 7 will feature Monique Davidson, Chief Executive of Horowhenua District Council as guest speaker

Ms Davidson will discuss ‘Local Government leadership and business as a critical link for success in Kāpiti-Horowhenua’.

Growth, government reforms and tricky local issues were just some of the big challenges facing the new Horowhenua CE when she took on the in June this year.

Ms Davidson returned to Horowhenua after five years as the chief executive of Central Hawke’s Bay District Council, appointed to the top role at just age 29.

She was born and bred in Horowhenua and was deputy chief executive at the council before moving to Hawke’s Bay.

At the time of her appointment Ms Davidson said there was something special about taking a leadership role in the community she grew up in.

“I think our community deserves the absolute best from its council and I saw an opportunity to come home and hopefully provide the leadership this organisation needs.”

Ms Davidson said Government reform would bring challenges, not just through three waters reforms but resource management reforms and the Future for Local Government Review.
