Paraparaumu Community Board candidate Kandi O’Neil has worked as an Area Manager for Special Children’s Events for the last 16 years organising an annual event for 1,800 special needs children.

“I would like to be on the community board so I can bring my best asset which is my ears so I can listen to what the community wants and needs as I feel they haven’t been heard about what they feel is important to them and I am not afraid to speak up.

Ms O’Neil is a mum of two adult children and has lived in Kāpiti for 8 years and her family has been here for over 25 years.

“I have recently started to take an interest in local council and have been very vocal with my comments and thoughts on Facebook and thought I should put my money where my mouth is. Karl Webber kindly nominated me, and I need to say the community board needs him.”

Ms O’Neil says she will help local groups tap into the community funding that is available.

“It would be great to make sure that core services are getting done and that the community is getting the things they need . I would like to get better promotion of our walkways, beaches, and local parks. I will also tackle the local crime and help make our community as safe as it can be.

“I would like to leave our community in a better condition and leave our children and grandchildren a community they can be proud of,” says Ms O’Neil.
