David Ogden, standing for the Paraparaumu Ward says it is essential that true political experience is present around the Council table because of the many not standing again and with the new faces being elected.

“As a previous Mayor and Councillor of Hutt City, Regional Councillor, and member of the Hutt Valley District Health Board, I will hit the road running,” he says.

“My three main aims are – Rates Control, Successful Council, Paraparaumu (The ward I am standing in).

“I have been a resident of Kāpiti for over 11 years, and have also previously owned property in Ōtaki, and know a great deal of the recent workings of the District.”

Mr Ogden says Paraparaumu is an ever thriving community, and needs strong representation. “I will give that.”

Apart from his local government experience he is a chartered accountant in public practice, and has worked as a corporate treasurer and financial controller.

“In my term as Mayor of Hutt City we worked as a team and achieved New Zealand Best results in many fields including rates and debt reduction, strong budgeting leading to, for example, record capital spending. Support of cultural and sporting activities was well achieved.

“I would play my part in achieving a successful Council team, seeking and supporting excellence from staff, and leadership by the Council in the district and region.”

Mr Ogden says he will seek Council’s support for local businesses, schools, health services, seniors’ communities and for successful housing solutions. He says all of these will require cooperation with the government of the day and our Council is well placed to achieve this.

“The Kāpiti and adjoining Horowhenua neighbourhood is developing into a strong sub-region with great promise through the roading and rail network.

“My interests include cycling, walking, home renovation, good health maintenance and a sense of humour. I have previously been a keen runner and marathoner, and have run enough kilometers to run around the equator, and then some.”

Mr Ogden is also presently involved in two community committees.
