Kāpiti Petanque Club held their Open Doubles tournament over Wellington Anniversary Weekend, with more than thirty entries coming from the Lower North Island.
This annual event attracts players with regional, national and international status, several of whom are members of the Club. This year’s winning team were Enoka and Monica Smiler of the Naenae Club, who were presented with the Liz Koh Trophy.
Liz Koh has sponsored the Kāpiti Petanque Club for many years and gifted the Trophy to the Club in 2011. Club President Lynne Shepherd said “Kāpiti Petanque Club are delighted to announce that in recognition of the many years of support given to the Club by Liz Koh, she has been invited to be the Club Patron. In accepting this role, Liz has expressed her desire to continue supporting the Club and to encourage members of the community to come along and share in the fun and friendship offered by the Club. Petanque is a year round sport with low membership fees when compared with many other sports. New members are warmly welcomed.”
