Tim Mikkelsen (Kāpiti Hire), Anne-Marie Tiffen (Kāpiti Rotary) and Bruce Morgan (Lifting the Lid) at the Golf fundraising event.
Bruce Morgan is a man with a mission – saving lives of our vulnerable youth.
Mr Morgan heads up Lifting the Lid, a charitable organisation aiming at not only highlighting the issue of youth suicide but also enabling practical steps to prevent it.
“New Zealand has the highest youth suicide rate in the world, and Kāpiti is the fifth highest in New Zealand,” says Mr Morgan.
He says Lifting the Lid is already making significant progress and the community support they have received has been tremendous.
“When people assist Lifting the Lid the are literally helping save lives. We are very grateful for the support we are getting.”
The Kāpiti Hire Charity Golf Tournament this year at the Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club was a significant fundraiser.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Kāpiti, the Golf event raised many thousands of dollars for Lifting the Lid and club president Anne-Marie Tiffen says it was a very successful event and this is a very important cause to support.
Mr Morgan says the fundraiser will mean direct help to over 40 kids in our community.
In another recent event Helen Turnbull, award winning chef and owner of Kāpiti’s 50-50 Restaurant created a special menu for Lifting the Lid on Youth Suicide Charity Lunch.
Ms Turnbull says she was honoured to be able to cook for the event.
“The menu was created with the key focus on using as many ingredients as I can that reduce anxiety, stress and depression in the body.”
