Jump on your bike at St Peter Chanel School’s free Bike Rodeo in Ōtaki on October 1 to kick-start the month-long Kia eke paihikara tātou Greater Welly Bike Fest.
Greater Wellington Regional Council will host free events for all ages across the region to encourage people to improve their cycle skills.
“Spring is the perfect time for people to grab their bikes out of their garage and fix them up in preparation for the summer months,” Greater Wellington Travel Choice Coordinator Amelia Wilkins says.
Ōtaki Bike Space, through Energise Ōtaki, and Greater Wellington’s Pedal Ready team have joined forces to bring this family day out to Kāpiti.
“Children will get the chance to try out a cycle skills obstacle course and qualified instructors from Pedal Ready will be on-hand to help out with bike safety and lessons on how to fix a bike.
“This is the perfect opportunity for children to upskill or learn to ride in a safe, fun environment.”
Amelia says these skills could translate to mountain biking, cycling on the road or even participating in a bike race.
Those looking to join the Wellington City launch of the bike festival can head over to Switched On Bikes on the Waterfront at midday on Friday, October 4.
“This free event will be the launch of the E-bike side of the festival where attendees can test their skills on an electric bike every Friday in October by cycling around the Waterfront or even heading up Mt Victoria for a challenge,” Amelia says.
