The Waikanae Music Society will present a concert by the Levansa Trio on Sunday 18 August. Young Russian cellist Lev Sivkov will be joined by the highly respected New Zealand pianist Sarah Watkins and violinist Andrew Beer, Concertmaster of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.
Lev Sivkov, a rising star on the international music stage, has been a prizewinner in several international cello competitions, most notably in 2016 when he took first prize in the prestigious Naumburg Cello Competition. He is currently Principal Cellist with Philharmonia Zurich and performs across Europe as a soloist and chamber musician. He is visiting New Zealand to play concertos with several orchestras as well as presenting some chamber music concerts. Immediately following his New Zealand visit he has been invited to participate in the ARD Competition in Munich.
Sarah Watkins, who has been described as “a national treasure”, spent many years as pianist of the NZTrio and is highly sought after as a collaborative pianist, recording artist, and ensemble musician. Violinist Andrew Beer, born in Canada, has been described as a “virtuoso soloist” by the San Francisco Classical Voice and as a “musical gift” by the New York Times. He has performed extensively throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australasia,
This trio of fine musicians will play works by Debussy (Sonata for Violin and Piano), Grieg (Andante for Piano Trio) , Myaskovsky ( Cello Sonata No 2) and Beethoven’s mighty Archduke Trio.
