A community housing taskforce, established last year released a report showing more people in Kāpiti are becoming homeless as a result of skyrocketing house prices and rents.
Kāpiti Grey Power is hosting a public meeting on housing in the Kāpiti area. The meeting will be discussing all aspects of housing in Kāpiti including rental and social housing.
Kevin Burrows, President of Kāpiti Coast Grey Power says a growing number of people, many of whom are over 65, are living in some form of rental accommodation.
“There is also a growing number who require some form of social housing either from Housing NZ or the Kāpiti District Council.”
“The meeting will be an opportunity for people to talk about their experiences with Housing and rental accommodation. If there are a number of people from Ōtaki and Waikanae interested in attending the meeting we could provide a free bus for people,” says Mr Burrows.
He says anyone interested in the bus service can contact the Grey Power office and let them know you are interested in the bus. “If there are a number of people interested we will let people know the time and place the bus is departing,” says Mr Burrows.
