Wellington Road Policing are reminding drivers to watch their speed around schools.
Recently a speed camera van was stationed outside a Primary school for the morning drop off period for three hours. During that time 1064 vehicles passed the camera with 238 vehicles being issued infringements for exceeding the posted speed limit.
Senior Sergeant Simon de Wit of Wellington Road Policing says this is unacceptable in an area where children are getting out of cars at the road side.
“It’s really disappointing that people still continue to speed around schools putting children at risk. It’s important to remember that children are vulnerable around roadways as they are still learning to identify risks.
“We need to do everything we can to safeguard our tamariki as they walk or cycle to school and that means slowing down,” says Senior Sergeant de Wit.
