NCEA results are out this week and with them a great deal of nervousness about the scores.
Shannon Redstall was head girl at Kāpiti College in 2012 and says she was getting good marks and was determined to go to the New Zealand Broadcasting School.
In a recent Newshub opinion piece Ms Redstall says there was no subject she was more determined to succeed in than media studies. On results day, she checked www.nzqa.govt.nz for the subject and it was a fail.
She says she had a copy of her exam essay so she re-read it. It was damn good she says and so she took it to her teacher to get a second opinion.
Her teacher thought it was an excellence essay and advised sending it in for resubmission. She paid the fee and sent it back to NZQA. It came back, and was awarded a merit.
In 2015, 9099 of students applied to have an exam mark reconsidered. More than 1500 had their marks changed.
The deadline for resubmission this year is February 16.
