Kāpiti’s love affair with trains of old continues. The recent North Pole Express was very popular and now Steam Incorporated are planning an excursion to the Art Deco Capital of Napier for the 30th Art Deco Festival.
A great way to experience Art Deco. Ride the rails in heritage carriages and hauled by an imacuately restored diesel locomotive on a special day adventure from the Kāpiti Coast to Napier. Marvel at the construction of the spectacular Manawatu Gorge and travel over many high viaducts on the journey to Napier. Option of joining at main intermediate stations enroute including Palmerston North.
The diesel train will run from Paekākāariki picking up at stations to Palmerston North (Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Ōtaki, Levin) then travel through the spectacular Manawatu Gorge to Woodville before heading towards the Hawkes Bay.
The train will be hauled by a powerful diesel locomotive and comprise our fleet of classic red “steel” cars. There will be an open air viewing platform on the train. Also included is a buffet counter selling sandwiches, sausages, hamburgers, drinks and snacks, and a souvenir counter for all sorts of railway memorabilia. You are welcome to bring your own food on the train.
Arrives Napier at noon and departs home at 4.15pm giving you the afternoon to endulge in the delights of Deco.
You can board the train at Paekākāariki, Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Ōtaki, Levin, Palmerston North or Woodville. Instead of visiting Napier we could also drop you off at Hastings to spend the afternoon with friends or family.
Return train fare from Kāpiti Stations is $159 adult and $109 child. Ex Palmerston North adult $139, child $89.
