Kāpiti farewelled one of its genuine characters on Friday, with the funeral service of Dave Chapman which packed out the Southwards Auditorium in Paraparaumu.
Mr Chapman known by most as Chappie, was a well known and liked personality on the Coast and for many years operated hotels at Paraparaumu Beach.
In recent years Mr Chapman was also owner of Coast Coachlines and was working when he died suddenly last week aged 65.
Hundreds turned up to the service to celebrate and remember Mr Chapman’s colourful life.
Among the mourners were many of Dave’s family, friends and patrons. He is survived by partner Rosina and his children Petrina, and Koreen and his much loved grandchildren.
Following the service Mr Chapman was laid to rest at Awa Tapu Cemetery, Paraparaumu.
For many years hundreds have enjoyed the hospitality and generosity of Dave Chapman, whether it was singing on the Karaoke nights or just sharing a yarn about present and past goings on in Kāpiti. Dave was also a great supporter of local social and sports groups and was benefactor to the Beachcomber Darts Club.
One of Kāpiti’s truly colourful characters will be sadly missed.
