Kāpiti Youth Support, in conjunction with Youth Quest and the Kāpiti Coast Youth Council, are hosting an informal afternoon of “Pizza, Pals & Politics” on Thursday, 24th August.
KYS hosted a similar forum prior to the last election, which was well supported with a large turnout of young people and some very robust discussion.
Due to the success of that event, we are again providing an opportunity for young people to get involved, ask questions and have their voice heard in a relaxed and “youth friendly” environment. Young people will have direct access to their local MP’s and candidates. Our confirmed attendees are Kris Faafoi (Labour), Rob McCann (Labour), Euon Murrell (National), Jack McDonald (Greens). Nick Tansley (The Opportunities Party), Adrian Ruawhe (Labour Party) are yet to be confirmed. As well as being able to talk and ask questions of the candidates, the Electoral Commission will also be attending, outlining and explaining how the electoral system works, the process of enrolment and how and where young people can vote.
This will be an exciting, challenging and informative event for young people in Kāpiti wanting to understand and engage in the voting process.
