Around 80 business people attended the Electra Business Breakfast yesterday morning at southwards expecting to hear what the EDLG has planned.
David Webber, Chair of the Economic Development Leadership Group for KCDC presented their initiative, strategy and planned action to support the anticipated population and economic growth for Kāpiti.
“Kāpiti has no core industry but is diverse and talented.”
His power point presentation provided some new statistics about Kāpiti and he said Kāpiti needs to leverage the economic potential of all local assets and find its own point of difference.
Some attendees said there was not enough time for questions on such important issues.
Liz Koh, who recently resigned from the Kāpiti Chamber Board and the Economic Leadership Group says, “I am keen to see what the Economic Development Leadership Group is going to achieve by the end of the year. It’s time to stop strategising and start doing.
“Let’s make a decision about what we want the world to know about Kāpiti and then tell that story,” says Ms Koh.
“Let’s also work on getting more resources for economic development and setting up the EDLG as an independent group of community stakeholders rather than yet another Council controlled committee.”
Mr Webber says the Leadership Group’s role is to advise KCDC on its economic plan.
David Webber will be a speaker at the Kāpiti Chamber of Commerce Business Briefing Event on the 26th of July.
