That’s Amore at Southwards

Operatunity’s Daytime Concert Series brings ‘That’s Amore’ to Southward Theatre in Kāpiti on Tuesday 14th March at 11am.

Following sold-out national tours, Operatunity’s Three Tenors: Bonaventure Allan-Moetaua, Derek Hill and Kalauni Pouvalu reunite for ‘That’s Amore’. The trio have been performing within New Zealand and abroad for close to 5 years and along with Soprano Susan Boland, they’ll be bringing their friendship, humour and talent to Kāpiti on Tue 14th Mar at 11am as part of their ‘That’s Amore’ tour to 24 centres across New Zealand.

The concert will feature Italian classics like Nessun Dorma, O Sole Mio, Come Back to Sorrento, Santa Lucia, Time to Say Goodbye and Mambo Italiano. The Tenor has always been considered the most romantic of voices, perfect for conjuring up the sultry passion and wonderful melodies of Italy and this talented group will be whisking audiences away to Italy.

During the ‘That’s Amore’ tour, Operatunity will continue to take donations of money and unwanted instruments for the Aotearoa Sistema programme in Otara, Auckland. Their recent Waltz of My Heart tour featured Sistema Music Director Jessica Hindin, and Operatunity patrons have so far donated $11,000 and over 50 unused instruments to the cause.

‘Assuring the sustainability of our work in Otara is of prime concern and knowing that we have the backing of people like your audience and organisations like Operatunity in the community is humbling and very encouraging. Without it we simply wouldn’t be able to offer these students this chance’ said Sistema Programme Manager Ros Giffney.

Sistema Aotearoa focuses on children with the fewest resources and greatest need and engages with, and delivers across, diverse sectors within the Ōtara community. Having begun in 2011 with 95 students, in 2017 over 1100 young people between 2yrs- 14yrs will receive high quality musical instruction within a safe, and supportive atmosphere. The Sistema Aotearoa programme helps these young people develop aspiration, concentration, leadership skills, and confidence. The programme has proven impact on the parenting skills and involvement in their child’s education with young people more focussed on their learning and their parents more involved with supporting their child. Students score more highly in reading and mathematics after 2 years in the programme, than children not participating – and that advancement is maintained. In short it gives the kids involved a kick-start in their lives.
