The Kāpiti Council welcomes the New Zealand Transport Agency’s decision to award the contract for the 13 kilometre Peka Peka to Ōtaki section of the Kāpiti Expressway to Fletcher Construction.
Mayor Gurunathan says the Council enjoys a positive partnership with Fletcher Construction through the Mackays to Peka Peka Alliance.
“The decision to award the contract to Fletcher Construction makes sense” he says.
“They will be able to draw on the local knowledge and expertise built through the Mackays to Peka Peka project and it will provide continuity of relationships for both the Council and the Kāpiti Coast community.”
The building of the Peka Peka to Ōtaki section of the Kāpiti Expressway is expected to deliver significant benefits to the Kāpiti Coast.
The Mayor says it will allow some of the skills developed through the construction of the Mackays to Peka Peka section of the Expressway to be retained in the district.
“Reduced travel times and our improved resilience will help unlock the Kāpiti Coast’s economic potential. It will bring more wealth into our district, enabling the Council to invest in services and infrastructure that will benefit all our residents,” he says.
