Local clothing designer Juli Hunter and her team are celebrating the opening of her new retail shop in Mahara Place, Waikanae.
Juli says the public are welcome to stop by on Friday, October 21st, anytime between 4-7pm for a glass of bubbles and an opportunity to check out her array of carefully chosen New Zealand-made and Vintage clothing, accessories and homewares.
With over 20 years’ experience in the fashion industry, Juli studied in New Zealand before honing her skills with Wellington-based Starfish clothing design and eventually moved to the UK to work in the fast-pace London fashion scene.
Upon her return to New Zealand, she made her base in Auckland and established the Juli Hunter brand. It wasn’t until the arrival of her daughter in 2005 and a move away from the city that she decided to make a shift from a more fashion-focused business model to one more about craft and an eco-friendly approach to design with upcycling clothing and recycling fabrics.
In 2010, designer Juli Hunter relocated from Wellington to Waikanae and opened her clothing alterations, repairs and eco-friendly-style shop based out of her home on Te Moana Road. Early this year, after six years of much success, she moved to her new location at Mahara Place in Waikanae township. Expansion with a stunning new retail shop was the next natural step in the overall growth of Juli’s business.
In her tradition of supporting sustainable living and promoting buy-local, Juli has teamed up with select local artisans featuring soaps, jewelry, textiles new and up-cycled homewares as well as new and pre-loved made-in-New Zealand clothing. And with her alterations service located just next door, a simple nip or tuck to your new purchase has never been easier.
You can stop by and say hello to Juli and the team every Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm at 6 Mahara Place.
