Long-time local resident Guy Burns has announced he is standing in the local government elections for a seat on either the Raumati Paekākāariki Ward or the Raumati Paraparaumu Community Board.
“I’m sick of seeing our rates rise steadily each year at an amount massively greater than inflation,” said Mr Burns.
“Most ratepayers have relatively fixed incomes, yet, rates continue to rise high, year after year. There seems to be no accountability on KCDC staff growth with staff costs more than doubling since 2006.”
Mr Burns said the current Mayor and Councillors prefer squabbling amongst themselves over code of conduct disputes and have taken their eyes off the bigger picture of governance, accountability and a long-term vision for Kāpiti.
“I’ve lived in the area nearly fifty years and have a good idea of what is important for locals. I’ve also worked in the NGO, education and central government sectors and have some communication and organisational skills something greatly lacking at KCDC Council at the moment.”
Mr Burns said his focus will be on reducing KCDC expenditure, thereby lessening the rate burden for residents.
