A 21-year-old man has died after a car struck him on the Kāpiti Coast.
The young man from Raumati was riding a longboard on nearby Maungakotukutuku Rd at about 5.45pm when the accident happened, Wellington Free Ambulance spokesperson Diane Livingstone said.
Police said the man died at the scene.
The man was riding the long skateboard-type piece of equipment downhill when a vehicle travelling behind hit him. The man was boarding on Maungakotukutuku Rd, a long windy road from the Maungakotukutuku Reserve, when he was hit. A longboard is a longer version of a skateboard.
A Wellington Free Ambulance spokeswoman said an ambulance was called to the scene at 5.45pm.
The man died at the scene.
Central Police Communications shift manager Ken Climo said the Raumati man was riding downhill on the longboard when he was struck by a vehicle that was following him down the road.
The police serious crash unit was at the accident scene and Kāpiti Police staff were investigating.
