To kick off the 2016 Electra Business Breakfasts (Wednedsay 3 February), we have invited the winner of the 2015 Kāpiti Horowhenua Electra Business of the Year, HLC to give us an insight into what makes their company so special.
Horowhenua Learning Centre (HLC) is a Private Training Organisation and Charitable Trust that delivers tertiary education and employment skills training.
Appointed in July 2014, Jacqui has over 20 years’ experience in senior management roles in Central and Local Government. She understands that value for money for students and government means that HLC must not only deliver quality education but also support learners and beneficiaries into employment and higher education outcomes.
Over the past two years HLC has grown considerably with a 100% increase in staffing and expansion to deliver training from five campuses in the lower north island. Through this growth phase, Jacqui has led and embedded a culture focussed on performance and quality which has significantly strengthened the organisations capability and performance. More learners are graduating with qualifications that are of value to local employers, and more beneficiaries are being upskilled and obtaining sustainable employment. In October, HLC was judged the 2015 Electra Business of the Year and also won the Business Sustainability and Large Business Excellence Awards. Jacqui will discuss her motivations for entering the awards and how it is part of a strategy to continue to improve and grow the business.
