Phil Edwards new chair of Paekākāariki Community Board

Phil Edwards was elected unopposed as new chair of the Paekākāariki Community Board at tonight’s (Jan 27) meeting.

Former chair Jack McDonald has recently started a new job at Parliament and felt he was no longer able to commit the amount of time required to chair the board. Mr McDonald will continue on as a board member.

Kāpiti mayor Ross Church praised the work Mr McDonald had done in his year as chair. “Jack has been incredibly effective in bringing Paekākāariki issues to the Council table. I am personally very grateful for his work as chair and that is also the view of the Council.”

Mr Edwards said he was thankful for the confidence his fellow board members had shown in electing him to the chair.

“Thanks to Jack for his work over the last year which was very busy and the new year looks like it will be even busier,” said Mr Edwards.

Mr Edwards has lived in Paekākāariki since 1984. He is a retired primary school teacher having taught for 44 years.
