Nominations open early for Kāpiti Sportsperson of the Year Awards

An earlier call for nominations and a number of new innovations mark the 10th anniversary of the 2015 PAK’n SAVE Kāpiti Sportsperson of the Year Awards.
While remaining a Lions Club of Kāpiti project, the awards now utilises professional event management Scopevents and this is seeing a number of innovations.
Project manager, Lion Joe Franklin said “A significant departure from past years is a much earlier acceptance of nominations. In the past the call went out on the 1st of March. However, this year, nominations will be accepted from December 15 and will remain open until 23 March 2015”.
“This longer period will take pressure off those submitting nominations to get information together – and for us to process it all in time for the big night on 13 May. It also means for those lodging nominations that they can do so much closer to when the actual events and successes occurred while it’s still fresh in everyone’s minds.”
Information will be sent out electronically next week to clubs, codes, colleges and individuals inviting participation. Any person or organisation wishing to participate but who hasn’t received the information can visit the awards website www.kapitispoy.org.nz or email [email protected]
Anyone can submit a nomination including clubs, officials, individuals, friends, family and team-mates. Hard copy forms will also be available at PAK’n SAVE Kāpiti, district libraries and the Coastlands Customer Service desk.
As well as the kudos of winning an Award there are two other major incentives to become involved. The first is that the Supreme Winner will receive $1,000, ($500 for themselves and $500 for the Kāpiti-based club, code or sport of their choice). The second is that Lotto Sport Makers and Sport New Zealand, working in partnership with Lions, are donating $1,000 worth of merchandise, $500 of which will go to an individual in recognition of his or her role as an unpaid sports volunteer and another $500 voucher will go to the local club, code or sport of their choice also for a variety of merchandise.
Franklin commented that “in past years the Awards functions have been great nights, well received by the sporting community, but the 2015 awards on the 13th of May will be even better with interesting changes to the event production, venue layout and catering.”
