Police have released name of the man found dead outside his car in suspicious circumstances on the Kāpiti Coast yesterday.
Matthew Stevens, of Lower Hutt, was found near his white Toyota Corolla on Paekākāariki Hill Rd about 7.30am.
The 32-year-old’s death was initially thought to be caused by a fatal car accident but police found his injuries were inconsistent with a crash.
“Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death and are appealing for anyone who might have had concerns for his welfare in recent times to make contact with the Operation Vintage investigation team,” said Detective Inspector Grant Wormald.
“In particular, anyone that may have spoken to or seen Mr Stevens in the last 48 hours.”
Stevens’ family have asked for privacy and are not commenting at this time, police said.
Paekākāariki Hill Rd, which links Pauatahanui near Porirua with Kāpiti Coast, was opened last night about 9.00pm after being closed at 7.30am yesterday.
A scene examination by the police specialist search group is likely to continue for several days and the car was also examined.
An autopsy will take place this afternoon and anyone with information should call 04 381 2000 and ask for the Operation Vintage investigation team.
